Ivies can be used as ground cover, climbing accents to a wall or fence, or to highlight a piece of garden art. While some species can take over quickly and become a nuisance, many varieties -- such as Boston ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata), which grows in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 4 through 8 -- are a positive addition to the garden. You can grow ivy from seed at home, with some preparation.
