Direction for Use :
Topical Use: Add Ferulic Acid to your favorite cream at approximately 1-2% concentration to easily make a fantastic antioxidant, photoprotective (protects the skin against UVB-induced erythema), and cancer preventive cream. It will also help stabilize the very unstable ascorbic acid.
Oral Supplement: 200-250mg daily.
- Free radical defense. Like other antioxidants — such as vitamins A, C and E, coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid — ferulic acid scavenges free radicals and protects cells from environmental damage. In particular, it’s effective against two highly destructive free radicals, superoxide and hydroxyl radical.
- UV protection. Research suggests that ferulic acid can help protect skin from UV damage. ferulic acid interferes with the process by which UV rays damage cell membranes. In addition, Ferulic acid helps to prevent redness and sunburn from UVB rays.
- Vitamin preservation. Chances are you’ll find vitamins in almost any skincare product. The downside? When they’re exposed to light and air, vitamins can break down and lose their skin benefits. However, ferulic acid prevents this process. Specifically, when added to skincare products with vitamin C or E, ferulic acid prevents the vitamins from breaking down, spoiling and becoming ineffective, according to the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
- Clinical ferulic acid concentrations are available over the counter in serums, face creams and lotions, eye creams and even lip treatments. Ferulic acid works best when used in tandem with other antioxidants, such as tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin C) and alpha lipoic acid.
