Eating kale salad can be quite chewy but not with this kale which is almost as tender as lettuce is! A lovely curled violet red kale that produces lots of delicious, frilly leaves and takes on the chill of winter with stride! Pretty in the flower garden or on the plate. Rich in nutrition and flavor. The broad, frilly, purple leaves grow on 2-3' tall, upright stalks. Good uniformity for an open-pollinated variety. Great for baby leaf and bunching, and can also be used as a bedding ornamental. Great for fresh eating, steaming, stir-fries, baking, soups, freezing and smoothies. Kale can be prepared just like spinach and steamed, blanched, or braised. It is exceptionally good with garlic and can be added to thick and creamy potato, bean, or sausage soups. When adding raw kale to a salad, wash and gently massage the leaves to break down the texture before tossing. The leaves are so tender and the flavor is so good! Even the stems are tender! HOW TO GROW: Sow seeds indoors 1/4" deep. Plant out just before the last frost. Kale is most tender and delicious after a frost. Harvest can continue even after snow. Keep moist, not letting the seeds dry out between watering. *** **SOIL Temperature for Germination: 60-70F **Height at Maturity: 12-16". **Plant Spacing: 12" apart. **Hardiness: Zones 4-10 **Sun Requirement: Full Sun **Sowing Method: Indoor Sow **Days to Maturity: 30-60 days **Days to Germination: 7-14 **Germination Rate: 98%
