Japanese maples are gorgeous trees that can be amazing bonsai plants or left to grow into decent size trees. Care for these is an art and a passion.
Care:
• Plant at least a month before the ground freezes, so it has time for some root growth before winter. But if you end up planting late, don't worry. Your tree will wait until spring to begin settling into its new home!
• Keep it in afternoon shade, especially when young
• Keep the plant well-drained, consistently moist soil, neither excessively wet nor dry
• Protect them from late spring frosts, especially when young
Be sure to not over water this bonsai as it could lead to rotting of the roots Prune it every spring until it becomes the shape you desire. And remember...have fun with it!
