You are buying Heritage Ever Bearing Raspberry rootstock. These are not from raspberry plants dug from someone's backyard, they are inspected by the State of Washington to be disease and virus free. Raspberry plants should produce for 15 or more years. That is why Universities recommend you don't risk wasting time on planting material that is not inspected or certified. We ship to all states except Hawaii and PR which are too warm for raspberries. Heritage has good size, dark red berries with good flavor. Great for fresh eating, freezing, canning, jams and jellies. A 1969 introduction from New York State, Heritage is strong, very vigorous and productive. This heirloom variety is recommended for home gardeners and for many years has been the standard by which everbearing varieties were judged. Easy to grow. Grows best in zones 4 - 8 with excellent winter hardiness. Planting raspberries from rootstock is the easiest and most economical way to establish your own raspberry patch. 8 ounces will plant a row 20 foot in length. You are buying rootstock. Rootstock produces more canes than bare root raspberry canes at less than half of the cost. This is the preferred method for raspberry farmers because of the lower cost and the ease of planting. You can expect 24-36 new canes to grow quickly from 8 oz. of rootstock the first year. All it takes is a little patience and remembering to water regularly. And since your rootstock is inspected to be free of diseases and viruses, your raspberry patch should last over 15 years with proper care. If your soil is too wet or cold to till, you can get a head start on the season...the raspberry roots can be planted in containers 1/2-1 inch deep to root out before they are planted in their permanent location. Place the containers in a sunny warm location. Usually in about 3 months after you planted the containers
