Primula acaulis S1 are known as Common Primrose or English Primrose. They grow in rosettes from the ground and are a favorite for early spring beds, borders and containers. Thanks to breeding programs, Common Primroses now are available in more colors and they are more hardy and long-lived. They are a lovely addition to borders with spring bulbs. This variety, Accord Scarlet, has brilliant red blooms with contrasting yellow centers. Primulas make great house plants too! Start Common Primrose seed indoors in winter for early spring transplants. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Keep the seed moist. With a temperature range of 60 - 65F, germination is usually in 30 days. Space the plants 8 inches apart. Grow Common Primrose in partial shade and in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Common Primrose usually is resistant to deer.
