Asparagus officinalis: Mary Washington is the standard for Asparagus because it produces wonderful tasting spears with tender stalks and produces heavy yields. The tasty spears are dark green with purple coloring at the tips. Asparagus is a beautiful fern-like plant with berries ready for next years seed. It takes Asparagus two years to mature and full harvesting can be done in the third year. A long lived perennial that produces abundantly for many years.
