Product Review
Monarch larva can only feed on milkweed plants. Showy Milkweed is a host plant and food source for Monarch larva and a nectar source for adult Monarchs. Showy Milkweed is a 2' to 4' tall native perennial with globular heads of variable colored flowers ranging from light pink to red or purple. The horns appear longer than other milkweed flowers. It is a plant of the northern tier of states and can withstand very cold temperatures, requires full sun and will grow in dry or moist soils. This plant is widely used in butterfly gardens, wildflower meadows, and prairie plant areas. Showy Milkweed is especially valuable as a pollinator conservation plant for many species in addition to Monarch butterflies. This milkweed was an important fiber source for Native Americans.
