TROPICA® - Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) - 3 Seeds
Worth knowing: The bottle palm owes its name to the fact that the trunk is looking like a barrel in younger years. Later, it is growing somewhat slender resembling the shape of a bottle. It reaches a height of 3 to 4 metres only.
Origin: Mascarene Islands: Mauritius, la Réunion and Rodrigues.
Propagation: The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Lightly roughen the seeds with sandpaper and leave them to soak in water at room temperature for a few hours. Use cultivation soil and press the seeds about 1 cm deep into the substratum. Place the sowing container warm and keep it evenly moist. Cultivation is unproblematic may, however, last several weeks, sometimes even months.
Place / Light: The odd feather palm has only 4 to 5 leaves at any given time and loves lots of light and warmth. It is rarely cultivated as a house plant, but nevertheless well suited for it. The bottle palm also tolerates full sun.
Care: Even grown indoors the palm requires lots of water. However, waterlogging should be avoided. Supply the plant with palm fertilizer every 4 weeks from April until October.
Winter period: The palm is not frost-hardy. Move in a warm location during winter and water a lot.
Bonsai Suitability: No
